My husband had surgery on April 12. After a few days in the hospital with a nice, normal 30 staples in his belly, he got an infection. While I don't have any photos of what it looked like when they took out the staples and cleaned out all the blood, pus and misc. goo, I do have a nice one from the first dressing change.

They're using something called negative pressure wound therapy that involves stuffing the wound with a gray material that looks like some sort of packaging material the post office would use. It's covered with a clear film and a vacuum pump is placed, then it's covered. He's got to cart around the pump and, oh joy, I get to change the cannister of junk.

So, here's the photo I took today. The reason the incision is crooked is that they were kind enough not to cut through his belly button.

My plumber dropped a 125 lb electric snake from a ladder 4 feet high onto my toe, had it x-rayed, it was a crush fracture and healed up nicely. I was wearing flip flops.

This is my wound after a simple hand operation went wrong. During surgery the surgeon cut a major artery meaning that Ihad to have more cuts to try the branch of the artery that they cut. Stupid doctors

Here’s a couple pics of my hand before having the pins removed. I dislocated my 5th metacarpal at the wrist while training at the Police Academy. The pins were put in to hold the 5th to the 4th after reduction. The peeling you see is layers of dead skin I tried washing off after 4 weeks in a removable splint.

BTW, my hand is fully recovered now with 95% range of movement and strength.

07/16/05 Whats up everybody! The site got some much needed tlc . I've had a lot of crap going on in my life the last 6 months or so but things are getting better. I spent most of the day updating and fixing the site:

On another note my oldest son joined the Army (shipped out 2 days ago )and his m.o.s. will be airborne needless to say I'm worried sick but its what he wanted to do so I'm behind him all the way. I'll keep you all updated.

Hi,

I wrote to you on 3/06/05 with pictures of a wound i got from a nail in my attic. I wanted to add some pictures and update the story: After the wound became infected and they took the stitches out they found an abscess that tunneled from the top of my head down into my neck. I was on IV antibiotics for 6 weeks and when I finally thought I was healed I ended up with a large blood clot in my left arm and have been on blood thinners since...damn nail.

was going through a particularly difficult time in my life when I experienced these awful itchy hives. I had them daily for about three months--nothing would make them feel better. They covered my whole body. Then, one day, they just disappeared, as quickly has they had came.

They aren't the most gory pics you've ever seen, but they might be worth something. I was raking the yard, and didn't wear gloves. I saw the skin had seperated and decided to prevent a blister by removing it, so I whipped out my knife and cut the skin off. It didn't dry out for well over 24 hours. Wet and Dry versions included.

Dan,

This one pissed me off, because not only did I lose the last molar on that side, but it was my "BLING" tooth and the only gold I own! I guess that when I had the tooth behind it was yanked a few months ago, the one that left the last bloody socket (as seen in my pics on your site), it caused a small crack in the root of my gold tooth, which abscessed, swelled up and started to leak pus. This left me no choice, the bling had to come out! Fortunately, as you can see, I have the tooth in a small box which I keep on my end table as a conversation piece. This piece of dental surgery was VERY painful due to the dentist having to scrape the infection off of my jaw bone.

BTW, cool tattoo!

I'm a Sophomore in High School, and during one of my practices, a fellow team member slid into second base, only to find my foot in front of it as I was getting ready to lay down the tag on him. The cut is pretty deep and if I could have gotten a pic when the blood is all gone, you could see the bone a little bit. I'm not going to get stiches because our last league game is this Saturday, and I don't want to just tear them out again. I'm still not for sure if I am going to play or not, but i most likely will. As you can see in the pictures, my ankle is swollen up and my foot has a greenish tint to it due to the soaking in iodine. Anyways, here are the pics and I hope you enjoy!

This isn't really a wound per se, but Scott's contribution of his empty tooth socket reminded me of the tooth I have sitting on my dresser. My story is similar to his...

I was eating general tso's chicken and pork fried rice from the Chinese joint up the street, and all of a sudden it felt like I was chewing on bone. Upon further inspection, I noticed that approximately 25 - 33% of my very back mouler above the gum was broken away. I already had a huge-ass silver filling right in the middle of the tooth, and a couple of fillings on the sides, and I guess what little bone was remaining finally gave away.

It didn't bother me much at first, so I wasn't anxious to go to the dentist. Then I was chewing gum one day about a week after, and the gum pulled out most of the silver filling that was remaining in the center of my tooth. This was a direct path to the nerve ending, so anything hot or cold or sweet or sour that got in there hurt like a BITCH and made me want to amputate my own fu**in jaw.

There was no saving the tooth, so they had to surgically remove it. It came out pretty easily, aside from all the blood. They had to have that vaccuum thing in my mouth the whole time sucking up the blood that was spewing out of the hole.

$300 and a bunch of hydrocodone and Tylenol 3 later, I'm able to offer you the attached pictures. They're not the clearest, because as you can imagine, photography of extracted dental specimens isn't the easiest thing in the world, but you can still get the general idea of how painful that shit was.

05/08/05Im way behind in posting pics, Im backlogged by about 6 submissions and Ill try to catch up asap. Youll never guess what I did last night. I got my first tattoo. Its something Ive been wanting to do for a long time so I went to the fine folks at Texas Legends in East Houston where Tattoo artist Cory Thomason did a fantastic job. I've attached a few pics of the socket that was left after a brutally painful tooth extraction. It's kind of hard to see, but it's right behind the gold tooth. I took these pics a couple of days after it was yanked out.

I was eating corn chips, chewing away and all of a sudden, there was a very loud "SNAP!!!" and I was in instant agony. I could taste blood and I soon realized that my tooth had broken right in half! It was so loud when it broke that my friend heard it from about 20 feet away!

So I come home after a night out only to realize I forgot my key to the walk thru gate and the card to the drive thru. So I decide to hop the drive thru gate like I have many times before.

See pic "imastud", the gate is about chest high, I'm 6'3. I don't have pics of what happened next but they tell me I was hung up on the gate for a little while. I'm not sure if it was my pants that were holding me there or the spike that was PIERCING MY THIGH!

I don't know I'm really damaged yet but there is a little blood. See pic "pants" It didn't seem like a big deal until I got home, got my shorts down and saw this... Pic "firstdamage" Also in this pic is a bruise from where a second spike almost got me, bottom left of pic"almost"

While waiting for the doc to sew me up, I had a little fun and entertained the nurses... pic"rubberglove" So I get 5 stiches and a tube to drain the wound since the skin had been completely pierced.

Fun part was most painful part of night was when nurse poured water on the wound to see what was going on. pic "tube" I took the tube out 4 days later, you can see where the tube was on the left. pic "close up" then over a week later I can't stand having the stitches in no more. Pic "nostich"

Some how that just doesn't look right. I'll keep you posted.

I was getting something out of my attic when I stood up and hit a nail. Got 11 stitches which got infected. My face swelled up like a balloon and they had to remove the stitches in surgery and cut the wound to remove the puss. I was in the hospital for a week. Wound is still healing.

Sometimes it is better to ignore a pack of drunken teenagers yelling obscenities at you, especially when they out number you 5 to 1. This is a result of my son trying to help his buddy and being hit on the chin with a beer bottle. He lost 2 pints of blood. 77 stitches later - Lesson learnt, I hope.

Here are four pictures of my index and middle fingers. Background: I recently dropped a solid bag of quickcrete on my hands and it broke my middle finger and then caused subcutaneous hemmoraghes on it AND my index finger. Basically, just giant, hard, infected pus pockets under my skin. Well, two days ago, for no reason at all, burst under the skin. This is the aftermath.

The middle finger is obviously the worst and you can see it's directly centered on the joint. This means every time I forget and bend my middle finger, the scab splits wide open and blood and pus and some foul blackish fluid literally SPRAY out and then ooze until the scab heals. The infection is actually down IN the joint of my finger and I can feel it getting harder and harder. It's pretty bad. Sorry they're so far off, my digital camera isn't that good. Enjoy!

I was loading a lawn mower on a trailer and slipped and my leg went under the lawnmower and took a chunk of meat out of my leg and I had to have 15 staples in my leg which is here in this pic.
